Introducing UB's new provost

Satish Tripathi, who will become UB's chief academic officer on July 1, was introduced to the university community on May 6 via a Web broadcast. » Full Story

Recruitment award. UB has received a $750,000 faculty development award through a state program designed to help universities recruit leading research faculty in science and technology fields.

Rumsfeld should leave. UB human rights expert Makau Mutua says the abuse of Iraqi prisoners is so profound that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld should resign or be dismissed.

Challenge achieving notable totals. The Senior Challenge has achieved two of its highest totals of recent years, thanks to the Class of 2004.

Lectureship fund receives gift. A Buffalo club named for a famed civil-rights activist has donated $1,000 to the effort to establish an endowed lectureship fund in the Department of African American Studies.

A benefit of soy. UB researchers have found that consuming isoflavone-rich soy protein can lower some of the "hidden" risk factors for heart disease.
