Developing a blood substitute. Work by UB researchers on a promising inorganic blood substitute will move forward, thanks to a $1.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Gift to fund arts administration program. A gift from UB alumni Gerald and Sandra Lippes will help the College of Arts and Sciences establish a unique interdisciplinary degree program in arts administration.

Celebrating Bloomsday. Dozens of items from UB's James Joyce Collection have been packed up and sent off to Ireland for the 100th anniversary of Bloomsday.

SUNY counsel reviews legal issues. UB faculty members must be sensitive to a myriad of legal issues that could potentially impact their careers and the education of their students, SUNY's associate counsel advised members of the Faculty Senate during Tuesday's meeting.

UB's "birdman." Librarian Chris Hollister is slogging through fields and wetlands in an effort to assist the state Department of Environmental Conservation in updating its database of breeding birds.

Singing the breakfast blues. That Egg McMuffin may taste good, but UB endocrinologists have found that it wreaks havoc on the body's blood vessels.

Continuing Welch's work. Twelve students have received Nancy Welch Awards in recognition of their efforts in furthering Welch's goal of "humanizing and harmonizing" the student residential experience.
