Miramax establishes film scholarships

Miramax Films has established a $50,000 scholarship fund to support qualified New York State students from diverse backgrounds entering the Master of Arts in the Humanities/Film and Performance Program at UB. » Full Story

Reducing heart-disease risk. UB oral biologists have shown that levels of two inflammatory proteins known to raise the risk of heart disease can be reduced substantially by regularly treating existing gum infections.

Jacobs to co-chair tech council. Donald J. Jacobs, founder and director of UB's Center for Applied Technologies in Education, has been appointed to co-chair the University of the State of New York (USNY) Technology Policy and Practices Council.

Examining dissent in the media. "Networks, art & collaboration," a conference organized by UB faculty member Trebor Scholz, will look at the many means of dissent devised by media artists, theorists, activists and critics, and consider their long-term goals in the face of global media consolidation.

Meningitis compliance. About 94 percent of all UB students have complied with the new state law requiring them to be educated about meningococcal disease and the availability of the meningococcal vaccine, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee learned yesterday.
