JOINING FORCES. Discussion of how complementary research at UB and the Buffalo companies Ultra-Scan Inc. and HealthAmerica Network can join together to develop new products and technologies with applications in biometrics and health care was the focus of a meeting yesterday in the laboratories of UB's Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics. IGERT Fellow LaDona Knigge, who has identified 54 community gardens in Buffalo, maintains that in addition to providing green space and a source of fresh food, the gardens are a way for members of urban neighborhoods to reclaim political visibility and empowerment.

Commemorating Millard Fillmore. The 204th anniversary of the birth of UB's first chancellor and the 13th U.S. president will be held on Jan. 7.
