Paul Bacon, helped to start purchasing department

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 23 in Williamsville United Methodist Church, 5681 Main St., Williamsville, for Paul A. Bacon, a longtime UB administrator who died Feb. 20 after a long illness. He was 82.

Bacon started his career at UB in 1946 as an engineering instructor. He later helped to start the university's Purchasing Department. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was assistant vice president for business affairs.

Bacon was a member of the National Association of Educational Buyers, the SUNY Purchasing Association and the Purchasing Management Association of Buffalo. He published articles in various purchasing and educational journals.

Upon his retirement, he was honored by the university for outstanding service.

Bacon received a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State Teachers College and an MBA and doctorate from UB.
