Saul Elkin, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance, is appearing in the principal role in Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" at the Kavinoky Theatre. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, 4 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, through Feb. 17. Elkin is the founder and artistic director of Shakespeare in Delaware Park.

Stuart C. Shapiro, professor of computer science and engineering, spent three weeks in Japan as an Invitational Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Shapiro visited research laboratories in Tokyo, Sapporo, Nara and Kyoto, and lectured at a number of institutions, among them Tokyo University and The National Institute of Informatics.

Margarita Vargas, associate professor of Spanish, recently attended a performance of "Waiting for the Italian," a play she translated with Teresa C. Salas, an emeritus faculty member from Buffalo State College, by drama students at St. Rose College in Albany. The translation appeared in "Women Writing Women: An Anthology of Spanish-American Theater of the 1980s," published by SUNY Press in 1997.

James A. Lenker, clinical assistant professor of occupational therapy, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) "in recognition of creative endeavor and outstanding achievement in promoting the advancement of rehabilitation through technology." Lenker, who has been elected to RESNA's board of directors, also received a Service Award from the American Occupational Therapy Association, at the group's annual meeting.

Lawrence Shulman, dean of the School of Social Work, has been elected to the board of directors of the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers Inc. (BFNC). BFNC operates 15 programs for youths, adults and seniors in Buffalo and Erie County.

Jan Chomicki, associate professor of computer science and engineering, gave an invited talk on "Data Models and Query Languages for Spatiotemporal Databases" at the workshop on Complex Reasoning on Geographical Data at the 2001 International Conference on Logic Programming held in Paphos, Cyprus. He also gave a talk on "Consistent Query Answers in Inconsistent Databases" at the National Technical University of Athens, in Athens, Greece.
