President Satish K. Tripathi was among 19 persons winning the Light of India awards recognizing excellence and the exemplary achievement of Indians living abroad.
Tripathi was the recipient of the Power of Influence in Education award.
Winners of the awards, presented by Remit2India, a Times Group online money transfers unit, were announced at the second annual Light of India awards ceremony, held on Saturday in New York.
Two new UB buildings took home top honors in Buffalo Business First’s annual “Brick by Brick” awards.
William R. Greiner Residence Hall, a sophomore residence hall on North Campus, received the “Best New Green Construction Award.”
The building, which opened last August, features a number of environmentally friendly features, including counters and floors made from recycled materials, high-efficiency lighting, low-flow shower heads and faucets, and detention ponds that prevent rainwater trickling from the roof from entering the sewer system.
Barbara and Jack Davis Hall, which UB dedicated late last month, won the “Best Educational Project” award. The 130,000-square-foot engineering building, which also includes environmentally friendly features, houses two departments form the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences—Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering—as well as the Center of Excellence in Document Analysis and Recognition (CEDAR) and the Center for Unified Biometrics and Sensors (CUBS).
