Nancy J. Smyth, dean of the School of Social Work, gave the keynote speech at the annual New York State Social Workers Association Conference, held last month in Buffalo. Smyth spoke on “Social Work in a Digital Age,” and also presented a workshop on Trauma-Informed Care during the three-day conference. A member of the UB faculty since 1991 and dean since 2004, Smyth leads the School of Social Work’s growing emphasis on cyberspace as a valuable tool for social workers and has directed the school’s production of the social work podcast “Living Proof.”

Beverly Foit-Albert, clinical associate professor emeritus in the School of Architecture and Planning, recently received the Robert and Louise Bethune Award from the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Buffalo/Western New York Chapter in recognition of a “lifetime of notable contributions to the profession of architecture through practice, mentorship and community leadership.” Foit-Albert, president of Foit-Albert Associates PC, served as a lecturer and clinical faculty member in the School of Architecture and Planning for 30 years. A UB alumnae (MArch ’75), she is a director of the UB Foundation board and serves as chair of the Properties Committee. She also has served on the board of the UB Alumni Association.
