  • An important preparation for winter is to remember to wear appropriate footwear and be especially careful when traversing parking lots and sidewalks. No matter how much plowing is done or how much de-icing salt is put down, there are going to be slippery spots. Every winter, people get injured from slips and falls on the pavement. Many of these injuries can be prevented with preparation and awareness.

  • Think positive. Look forward to the first snow by thinking about hot chocolate, apple cider and pumpkin pie. Good boots and a warm coat go only so far. The only thing that will really keep you warm is the right attitude. If you love winter, it’ll love you back.

  • Figure out a plan for how to enjoy snow and cold! Buffalo's winter is too long and lovely to hibernate. Ski, snowboard, skate, sled or snowshoe!
