Max Wickert, professor emeritus in the Department of English, has founded Outriders, a new press for original poetry and fiction. Outriders recently published its first book, “The Spaces Between Us,” a volume of poetry by Ann Goldsmith.

University Police Officers Ted Kopacz and Brian Horst have been named Employees of the Quarter for the 2nd Quarter of 2010. Kopacz was cited for saving the life of a woman who was attempting suicide on the Amherst Bike Path; Horst was cited for apprehending a robbery suspect. Lt. Timothy Thompson and Officers Jonathan Fletcher and Anthony Vinci earned monorable mention for disregarding their own safety to assist a man who had jumped out a 10th floor window of Clemens Hall and landed on the third-floor pedestrian walkway.

UB Police Chief Gerald W. Schoenle Jr. was one of 24 law enforcement executives from across the country who participated in a National Law Enforcement Leadership Institute on Violence Against Women hosted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Participants explored innovative approaches for investigating crimes of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking.
