His successor and predecessor, as well as his children, will be among those paying tribute to and remembering UB’s 13th president when the life and legacy of President Emeritus William R. Greiner are celebrated in a program at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.

The program in the Mainstage Theatre will be followed by a reception in the CFA atrium, where Carol Morrissey Greiner and her family will receive guests.

If you are planning to attend the celebration, please RSVP.

Remembrances of their father will be presented during the program by Kevin T. Greiner, Terrence A. Greiner, Daniel R. Greiner and Susan Greiner Keenan.

Leading those paying tribute to Greiner, who died on Dec. 19, will be President John B. Simpson, and Steven B. Sample, president of the University of Southern California.

They will be joined in offering tributes by six others: Jeremy M. Jacobs, chair of the UB Council; D. Bruce Johnstone, University Professor Emeritus; Muriel A. Howard, president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities; Thomas E. Headrick, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus; Francis M. Letro, attorney at law; and Judith E. Albino, associate dean in the Colorado School of Public Health and a professor in its School of Dental Medicine.

Dennis R. Black, vice president for student affairs, will officiate at the program.

The invocation and benediction, respectively, will be offered by the Rev. Msgr. J. Patrick Keleher, director of UB’s Newman Center, and the Rev. Joseph M. Freedy, parochial vicar at Good Samaritan Parish in Ambridge, Pa.

Musical selections will include the “Irish Blessing” sung by the Buffalo Chips, UB’s male student a cappella group, and “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming,” performed by the UB Brass Ensemble under the direction of Jon R. Nelson, associate professor of music. Mary Kate O’Connell will sing “We Can Be Kind,” accompanied by pianist Cindy Connor. Joseph Baschnagel will play the bagpipe at the conclusion of the program.

During the reception in the CFA atrium, a musical tribute will be provided by The Thunder of the East, UB’s marching band, under the direction of James E. Mauck.

A Mass of Remembrance for Greiner will be offered at 8 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph University Church, 3629 Main St., adjacent to the South Campus. All are welcome.
