Evan Calkins, professor emeritus in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Network in Aging of Western New York Inc. Calkins is a founders of the network, a non-profit organization that brings together individuals and organizations in Western New York that are involved in aging and long-term care. The goal of the organization is to enhance efforts to improve the quality of life for older persons and their families by providing members with opportunities for resource exchange, professional development and stimulation of interdisciplinary collaboration. Its offices are located in Kimball Tower, South Campus.

Nils Olsen Jr., professor and former dean of the UB Law School, has been appointed by Gov. David A. Paterson to the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority. Olsen’s term on the state control board that monitors the finances of the City of Buffalo, runs through June 2011.
