Mentors needed for international students

The Office of International Student and Scholar Services and Counseling Services are seeking UB faculty and staff, students who have studied abroad and graduate students in certain departments to serve as mentors for new international students during the spring 2010 semester.

Participants do not need to know about other cultures, speak other languages or have traveled overseas; all that is needed is a desire to help others and an interest in people from other cultural backgrounds.

Mentors must be available to meet with their mentees for one hour every two weeks. The activity can be as simple as having lunch, going for coffee or taking a walk, or as elaborate as visiting a local tourist attraction, going to a sports event or having a family dinner in the mentor’s home.

There will be separate half-day training sessions for both mentors and mentees.

Those interested in joining the International Student Mentoring Program should fill out the mentor application.

Time to change health insurance

The effective date of change will be Jan. 7, 2010.

Forms must be completed and returned to University Human Resources no later than Dec. 31.
