Ryan Gentner and Casey Williams, students in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, won the first-place Tablet Accessibility Award at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2009, the world's premier student technology competition held recently in Cairo, Egypt. They won the award for using the tablet PC to create physical and occupational therapies for handicapped children. The Tablet Accessibility Award was one of 19 first-place awards given out at the contest, in which 444 students from 149 teams representing 70 countries and regions competed in the finals. Finalists were chosen from a pool of more than 300,000 students from more than 100 countries and regions.

The Center for the Arts has received four bronze Telly Awards honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest film and video productions, and groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films. The awards recognize videos for the College of Arts and Sciences (development feature), the Division of Athletics (Bullseye Series Season 2, sports programming, and UB Bulls vs. Temple "The Catch,” sports feature) and the CFA’s Arts in Healthcare Program (health and wellness feature). The Center for the Arts now has received a total of 13 Telly Awards for its video and television productions.
