University Police urge caution, vigilance

In light of sexual assaults on two women occurring recently on the South Campus, University Police are cautioning members of the university community to exercise caution and to be vigilant at all times.

In the first incident on Aug. 31, a female student residing on the South Campus was assaulted by a man who came up behind her and grabbed her when she stepped out for some fresh air at 1:30 a.m. near Michael Hall.

In the second incident on Sept. 4, a woman who is not affiliated with UB was raped and beaten by two men while walking across the lawn near Hayes Hall on the South Campus between 1 and 2 a.m.

While both incidents occurred late at night, University Police, while doubling patrols on the South Campus, also are urging members of the university community to exercise caution and vigilance at all times.

Remember that there is safety in numbers. It is best to travel with others, especially after dusk.

Always be cognizant of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the University Police.

Members of the community are urged to be vigilant at all times. Report any unusual circumstances or suspicious persons/activities to the University Police as soon as possible.
