News and Progress

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The State University of New York Board of Trustees today appointed Satish K. Tripathi as the 15th president of the University at Buffalo. Tripathi has served as UB's provost and executive vice president for academic affairs for the past six years.
The new bill passed by the New York Senate today in support of the UB 2020 strategic plan will benefit students, families and the economy of Western New York, said University at Buffalo President John B. Simpson, who praised members of the Western New York legislative delegation for their ongoing commitment to the community and to public higher education in New York State.
The Student Services Transformation (SST) project is on track for a 2011 rollout of UB’s new Student Information System, renamed the HUB, the Web-based software program that will integrate the university’s student services systems, including academic advising, admissions, course registration, financial aid, student accounts, grading and transcripts.
Governor Andrew Cuomo released his executive budget proposal and it calls for deep reductions in state spending, and includes a 10 percent cut to SUNY’s operating budget.  These proposed cuts will make it even more difficult for us to continue to provide an excellent and accessible education to our students, advance our academic enterprise, and enrich our communities.
With your help and that of other UB Believers, we were able to accomplish a great deal in 2010. We raised awareness in Albany and across the state about the goals and importance of UB 2020 and the need to implement public policy reforms to empower UB and other SUNY campuses.
The Rev. Michael Chapman, pastor of St. John Baptist Church and president of the Oak-Michigan Housing Development Corp, a not-for-profit housing development corporation of St. John Baptist Church, announced on April 5 a step forward for a well-devised, systematic, business plan to revitalize Buffalo’s East Side and the critical role of UB in achieving this goal.
