The new mark, which features a boldly designed, fiercely charging Bull, is the first new logo for UB athletics since 1996. The logo came about through the work of the Bulls' marketing and communications departments in conjunction with the UB Office of Marketing and Creative Services, which took the project from conception to completion. The lead design was done by Alan Kegler, associate creative director, and his design team at Marketing and Creative Services, with Peter Killian, assistant vice president for marketing and creative services, overseeing the project.

"We are excited to present a new look for UB athletics befitting the direction of our program," said Warde Manuel, director of athletics. "Our old mark has served us well over the past nine years, but I felt that with the new energy and direction being provided by President John Simpson, it was time for something new. I also feel that the strength of the "Bull" is in its entire body, not just its head, as was previously presented. Our new logo has the strength, the fearless attitude and the combative spirit that our athletic department will need to achieve our goals."

In developing the mark, the Division of Athletics engaged several focus groups, both on- and off-campus, to obtain feedback that ultimately led to the new look.

The new mark, available in several formats, will be available on merchandise exclusively online at http://www.buffalobulls.com, starting Friday, before an expected fall rollout in local retail stores.

In addition to the new mark, UB also unveiled its new football jerseys and helmets, which will debut in head coach Turner Gill's first game versus Temple on Aug. 31 in UB Stadium. The uniforms, custom-designed by Nike through Ad Pro Sports in Buffalo, have a traditional blue-and-white design with the word "Buffalo" above the number on the front of the jersey. The Bulls' helmets will display a new design of the "interlocking" UB-featuring a gray outline-on a blue helmet.

"It is my belief that a football helmet needs to have a traditional and consistent look," said Manuel. "We have had many different helmet orientations since returning to Division I and it is my expectation that this will remain the look for UB football for many, many years to come."
