Susan Bennett, clinical associate professor of physical therapy,
exercise and nutrition sciences, is one of 32 Americans who will be
inducted into the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Volunteer Hall
of Fame for 2001. The inductees were selected for their "outstanding"
volunteer support of the organization and for advancing awareness of
the society's mission to end the devastating effects of MS. Bennett
has been active in the Western New York/Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter
of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for 10 years and created
the MS Wellness Programa comprehensive exercise-therapy program designed
for those living with MS.
Colin Drury, professor of industrial engineering, has been named
chair of NASA's science and technology working group for space human
factors engineering.
An invited paper, "Nanophotonics: Interactions, Materials and Applications,"
authored by Paras N. Prasad, SUNY Distinguished Professor and
Samuel P. Capen Chair in the Department of Chemistry and director of
the Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics, that appeared
in July 2000 has been chosen as an "Editor's Choice" of the Journal
of Physical Chemistry. Coauthors were Yuzhen Shen, Christopher
S. Friend, Yan Jiang, Daniel Jakubczyk and Jacek Swiatkiewicz,
all from the Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics.
Adele Henderson, associate professor of printmaking and chair
of the Department of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences, will exhibit
her work as part of an exhibition, "5 Studio Art Alumni," which will
run from Monday through Oct. 26 in the Eisentrager Howard Gallery at
the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Henderson received a bachelor of
fine arts degree from UNL in 1977.
Berghahn Books has published "Crossing Boundaries: The Exclusion and
Inclusion of Minorities in Germany and America," a collection of essays
that were delivered as part of a conference at UB honoring Georg
G. Iggers, SUNY Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department
of History, upon his retirement in 1998.
Frank J. Cerny, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy,
Exercise and Nutrition Sciences (PTENS), and Harold W. Burton,
associate professor of PTENS, have published a new textbook, "Exercise
Physiology for Health Care Professionals."
Beth Holleran, project coordinator at the Research Institute
on Addictions, has been elected president of the board of the Buffalo
State College Alumni Association.
