April music events to feature contemporary chamber orchestra

A concert by the world-renowned contemporary chamber orchestra Paris' Ensemble Intercontemporain will highlight events planned for April by the Department of Music.

The Ensemble Intercontemporain will perform at 7 p.m. April 25 in Slee Concert Hall on the North Campus.

Buffalo is one of only four cities to be selected for the orchestra's U.S. tour this season. Formed in 1976 by Michael Guy, who at the time was the French minister of culture, the Ensemble Intercontemporain fulfilled the vision of Pierre Boulez for an ensemble devoted entirely to performing music of our time. Established as a permanent body of 31 outstanding soloists rather than a full-time chamber orchestra, it has extended its repertoire over the past 20 years to more than 1,400 works, including 260 world premieres and 115 works that it commissioned.
