Basketball

Men's

Bowling Green 62, UB 59
Miami (OH) 76, UB 48
The UB men's basketball team dropped two games last week against Mid-American Conference opponents in Alumni Arena. The Bulls lost to Bowling Green, 62-59, on Jan. 6 and to Miami (OH), 76-48, on Jan. 8.

Louis Campbell and Nikolai Alexeev led the Bulls against Bowling Green with 18 points apiece. The 18 points were a career-high for Alexeev, a sophomore, who also had nine rebounds, just missing a "double-double" for the second straight game. The Bulls lost despite hitting 5-of-9 shots from three-point range in the second half.

In Friday's loss against Miami before a season-high 3,014 fans, the Bulls were led again by Alexeev, who had 14 points and five rebounds. Will Campbell added 10 points, while senior Nate Johnson had 10 rebounds and four points off the bench.

Women's

UB 68, Akron 60
After having its match at Western Michigan on Jan. 6 postponed because of inclement weather, the women's basketball team defeated visiting MAC opponent Akron, 68-60, on Saturday.

Sophomore Tiffany Bell led Coach Cheryl Dozier's team with a double-double (22 points and 10 rebounds). Sophomore Mari McClure pitched in 15 points and nine rebounds. Senior point guard Catherine Jacob added nine points and seven assists to the winning cause.

The Bulls outscored the Zips, 41-28, in the second half while shooting 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the field.

Wrestling

Pittsburgh-Johnstown 26, UB 9
The wrestling team opened its dual-meet season with a 26-9 loss to Pittsburgh-Johnstown, ranked first in the nation in NCAA Division II. The Mountain Cats defeated the Bulls, 26-9.

UB winners included senior captains Jacob Schaus and Matt Ricci. Schaus was a 3-1 winner at the 174-pound weight class and Ricci was a 7-4 winner at 184 pounds. Junior John Eschenfelder was the Bulls' third winner, taking a 6-2 decision in the heavyweight division.
