New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians has chosen John Fudyma to receive its Laureate Award

The award honors members of the ACP who have demonstrated an abiding commitment of excellence in medical care, education or research, and in service to their community, their region and the ACP.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Next month, the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) will present its Laureate Award to John R. Fudyma, MD, division chief of general internal medicine and associate professor in the Department of Medicine in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo.

The award will be presented at the organization’s 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting in June in Rye Brook, New York.

The Laureate Award honors members of the ACP who “have demonstrated an abiding commitment of excellence in medical care, education or research, and in service to their community, their region and the ACP.”

Fudyma, an internist with UBMD Internal Medicine, has had a varied career, focusing on medical education, quality improvement and patient safety, with a special interest in public health and serving the community.

From 2004 to 2008, he served as chief medical officer for Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). He served in the same role with the Seneca Nation Health Department from 2008 to 2011. In 2010, he completed a Masters of Public Health at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. In 2011, he returned full-time to the Department of Medicine as division chief of general internal medicine. He also currently serves as associate medical director at ECMC.

He received honorable mention in UB’s 2016 Louis A. and Ruth Siegel Awards, as a teacher in the preclinical program at UB.  

An alumnus of the Jacobs School, he completed his residency in internal medicine at UB, served as chief resident in 1990 and was associate program director of residency training at UB.

Fudyma lives in Snyder.
