The book launch celebration brought together over 500 researchers, industry representatives and engineers from around the world. The commemorative album features stories of significant engineering projects and achievements, and innovation that represents the story of civil engineering over the past two hundred years.

"It was quite a thrill to see such a large international gathering of civil engineers, and to see first-hand that we are all dealing with similar issues," says Atkinson.

The book launch included several presentations on some of the emergering topics in civil engineering. Some of the themes discussed include smart city infrastructure, AI applications in civil engineering, high-speed transportation and increasing pressures on water resources.

UB was featured in the Engineering Excellence section of the chapter titled “Smart Infrastructure.”

According to the University’s entry in the album, the “Department’s mission is to provide engineering students with the requisite tools and training to address the changing needs and challenges facing society.”

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is professional membership body made up of 92,000 civil engineers from around the world. ICE provides advice to industry and governmental organizations, while encouraging its members to continue their professional development by providing a variety of civil engineering knowledge resources.
