For the fourth consecutive year, a female peregrine falcon has laid eggs in a nesting box in the tower of Mackay Heating Plant on the east side of the South Campus. Classified as an endangered bird species in New York state, peregrine falcons were completely eliminated from the Eastern United States in the 1960s, mainly due to pesticide residues in their bird prey. Thanks to efforts like the one at UB, there are now 57 nesting pairs in New York state.

Dr. Eubie Claw (female, blue tape, fitted with GPS
tracking device to help the DEC learn more about Peregrine falcons
and help protect this endangered species.)
Feather Locklear (female, white tape)
Talon Alda (male, yellow tape)
Lancelot (male, green tape)
