The Professional Staff Senate recently recognized Ed Brodka and Brandon Gilliland for outstanding service to UB and to the PSS.

Gilliland, a financial aid adviser in the Office of Financial Aid, is the recipient of the PSS’ Outstanding Service Award, given to a full-time professional staff member for outstanding volunteer service to the community and excellence within the individual’s professional position.

Brodka, group learning coordinator in the Office of Career Services, is the recipient of the Outstanding Service to the Professional Staff Senate Award. The award honors a member of the professional staff who has provided outstanding service to the PSS as a member of the Executive Committee or as a member of a standing or ad-hoc committee or task force of the PSS.

The awards were presented at the PSS’ annual Recognition Luncheon held on May 18.

Brandon Gilliland

Gilliland specializes in federal education benefits, in particular the area of financial aid related to G.I. Bill benefits, and has become a vital resource for many of UB’s military and veteran students. As the liaison to the Veterans Affairs Office and Veterans Affairs Executive Order #13607 coordinator, he works closely with UB students who receive funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure they understand their options.

Gilliland helped establish the UB Veterans’ Association in 2013, and serves the student club as its primary support staff. He has assisted with numerous aspects of the organization, including developing the group’s constitution, gaining formal recognition from the national chapter, recruiting members and helping to organize community service projects and fundraisers.

Before assuming his current position, Gilliland served as the assistant to the coordinator of institutional scholarships.
