Family and Homecoming Weekend, set for Oct. 20-22, promises fun and activities for everyone and will include the traditional football game and half-time festivities, an evening with well-known comedienne Janeane Garofalo, cultural events and a bonfire and carnival.
There
also will be a bus tour of Niagara Falls, the fall concert by the Zodiaque
Dance Company, a family dinner and brunch, men's and women's soccer
matches and a night at the movies.
All events will be held on the North Campus, unless otherwise indicated.
Events on Oct. 21 will center around the homecoming game between the UB Bulls and the Ball State Cardinals, with kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m. in UB Stadium.
Half-time festivities will feature the crowning of the homecoming king and queen, and a rousing performance by the "Thunder of the East" marching band.
Family-member game tickets, which will include a tailgate party beginning at 11:30 a.m., are $12 per person.
The UB Alumni Association will host a free pre-game party from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with food, face-painting and prizes for alumni, students, parents, and faculty and staff members under the white tent at the corner of Augsperger and Coventry roads.
Nationally known comedienne Janeane Garofalo will present an evening of comedy at 8 p.m. in Alumni Arena.
The performance is sponsored by the Office of Student Unions and Activities, and the University Union Activities Board. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

The traditional carnival with games of chance, food and the lighting of the bonfire will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 20 on the shores of Lake LaSalle.

the Movies will feature showings of "The Perfect Storm" at 7 and 9:30
p.m. in the Student Union Theatre. Sponsored by the University Union
Activities Board. Tickets are $2.50.

Zodiaque Dance Company's
fall concert, 8 p.m., Drama Theatre, Center for the Arts, featuring
light, classic contemporary, narrative and abstract works. Mention Family

Cotton Girls/Overtones,
8 p.m., Black Box Theatre, Center for the Arts, featuring two warm and
witty one-act performances by UB students sponsored by the Department
of Theatre and Dance. Mention Family Weekend and tickets will be $3
at the door.
In addition to the football game, other activities on Oct. 21 will include:
Bus tour of Niagara Falls,
7:15 a.m. to noon, with pick-up on Putnam Way in front of the Student
Union. Cost of the tour is $13 per person and will include a "Wake,
Rattle 'N' Roll" continental breakfast in the Hard Rock Cafe and a visit
to Casino Niagara. Bring identification to cross into Canada and return
to the U.S. Seating is limited and registration is required at the check-in
for Family and Homecoming Weekend in the Student Union Lobby from 4-7
p.m. Oct. 20. Presented by the Office of Student Unions and Activities.
Tour of the Multidisciplinary
Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER) at 10:30 and 11 a.m.,
featuring UB's "shake table" that simulates earthquakes in the laboratory.
Space is limited and tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served
basis. No children under 12 admitted.
