Retirement program planned

DOES THE weather have you thinking of retiring to a warmer climate? If you're a member of the Employees' Retirement System (ERS), this might be a good time to look at your options. The Department of Personnel Services is planning a pre-retirement program, which will begin in mid-February and include a series of group sessions tailored for persons enrolled in the New York State ERS.

The programs are designed to help individuals who plan to retire in the near future as well as those who expect to work several more years. However, the pre-retirement programs are being planned in anticipation that a state retirement incentive may be offered in 1996.

"Last year's state incentive program was implemented so quickly that classified employees were not given a reasonable period of time to explore such an option. We would hope that the pre-retirement program would be of value to eligible employees who would choose to consider a state incentive," said Ellen McNamara, UB assistant vice president for human resources.

Sessions being planned :

Retirement Benefits Overview. A representative of KPMG Peat Marwick will present group sessions at UB.

Social Security Benefits Overview. A Social Security Administration representative will offer group sessions at UB.

Appointments with ERS Representatives. Depending on interest, Personnel Services will arrange individual, on-campus appointments with an ERS representative.

Announcements of dates, times and locations of the program will be distributed within the next two weeks. If a 1996 state retirement incentive is offered, eligible employees will be notified separately. Following announcements, questions should be referred to Jerry Linder, manager for retirement services, at 645-2646, ext. 103. UB classified employees 45 and older who are ERS members are eligible to attend programs without charging leave accruals.
