OPENING EXHIBITS

Topped by fish tanks

"Dumping Sight: Landscape/Landscope," an exhibit by Satoru Takahashi, opens Jan. 24 in the University Art Gallery, Center for the Arts, North Campus. The exhibit, which runs through March 22, is "a complex architectural-sculptural work consisting of two separate revolving doors made of reflective glass with fish tanks as ceilings." Takahashi will give a talk to introduce the opening reception, 4-7 p.m. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday, Noon-5 p.m. Admission is free.

Move over, "Red Vertical"

Simon Unger's "Red Vertical" gives up its occupancy of the Lightwell Gallery at the end of the month. The coming site-specific installation is one by Leonardo Drew, opening in late January in the Lightwell Glery.

Fresh paint

New paintings and drawings by Walter Prochownik will be on view Jan. 22-Feb. 13 in the Art Department Gallery located in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. The show is presented on the occasion of Prochownik's retirement from the UB Dept. of Art. An opening reception is scheduled Jan. 25, 5-8 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Saturday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Admission is free.

Coming soon to a gallery near you

Look for "Perfect World" in late January in the University Art Gallery. In this group exhibition, Vincent Shine, Laura Stein, Gregory Crewdson, and David Nazio find "a variety of less than romantic ways" of representing nature. The show will be up through March 15.

CONTINUING EXHIBITS

Parody and paintings

Three art shows will close this month in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. Beauvais Lyons' "Reconstruction of an Aazudian Temple: A Parody of Science, History and Art," is on view through Dec. 15 in the Art Department Gallery. Paintings by Lydia Dona are on view through Dec. 22 in the University Gallery's first-floor space. And the Graduate Show is in the University Gallery's second-floor space through Dec. 13.

Better be quick

An exhibit of 1994 competition winners from the National Institute for Architectural Education is on view through Dec. 8 in James Dyett Exhibition Hall, 335 Hayes Hall, South Campus. Admission is free. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

International Folk Dancing

UB's International Folk Dance Club will meet in 2 Diefendorf on UB's South Campus 8-11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 and 15 and Jan. 5, 12 and 19.
