UB center helps four WNY companies obtain state training grants

WITH THE ASSISTANCE of UB's The Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) and working with the Western New York Economic Development Corp., four Western New York companies have applied for and received training grants from the Empire State Development Corp. of New York State.

Oliver Gear Inc., P&G Steel Products Co., Ingram Micro Inc. and Robinson/Fiddler's Green Manufacturing Co., Inc. have been awarded Regional Economic Development Partnership Program grants.

Ingram Micro, Inc. of Williamsville, a software- and hardware-distribution company, has received a $26,400 grant to improve productivity and the skills of its workforce. Over the next three years, the company expects to add up to 580 employees.

Robinson/Fiddler's Green Manufacturing Co., Inc. of Springville, a maker of kitchen utensils, and a heat-treating, injection-molding and tool-and-die manufacturer, has received a $22,000 grant to develop a plan to increase competitiveness and efficiency. Over the next three years, the company plans to add up to 36 new jobs.

P&G Steel Products Co. of Buffalo, a manufacturer of stampings and wire assemblies, has received a $15,000 training grant to implement strategic planning, human-resource planning and other training goals. The company plans to add up to 24 new jobs over the next three years.

Oliver Gear, Inc. of Buffalo, a gear manufacturer that primarily serves the automotive industry, has received a $10,000 grant to develop a plan to increase competitiveness and efficiency. Over the next three years, the company expects to add about 5 employees.

Based in the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and affiliated with the UB School of Management, TCIE promotes economic growth in Western New York by helping local companies, which pay fees for service, to become more competitive.
