Charles Hutchison

Charles Jackson Hutchison, an electrical engineer and facilities program coordinator at UB, died Sept. 12 in his home in Clarence Center. He was 83.

A native of Rochester, Hutchison, known to many as “Chuck,” served in the Navy during the Korean War. He graduated in 1957 from Clarkson University, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies.

He began his engineering career with Eastman Kodak in Rochester and moved to Clarence Center after taking a position with Bell Aerospace.

Later, he was a consulting engineer for Trautman Associates and served as a facilities program coordinator in University Facilities — Facilities Planning and Design for 17 years. He reviewed the electrical infrastructure for much of the North Campus, including the infrastructure for the campus’ original buildings. He retired in 2000.

Mr. Hutchison was a member of United University Professions, Clarence Center United Methodist Church and the Professional Engineering Society.

An avid Dixieland jazz fan, he also had been a Boy Scout leader and a statistician for sports teams in Clarence.
