UB faculty in the Communities of Excellence will work together
across disciplines to address major issues facing our world.
UB is establishing three new Communities of Excellence that will
harness the strengths of faculty from disciplines across the
university to confront grand challenges facing humankind.
About 100 faculty members discussed potential areas of focus for
RENEW, UB's interdisciplinary environmental research initiative,
during a recent workshop.
GEM will advance our understanding of the genome and microbiome,
and use that knowledge to improve the health of our community.
Global Health Equity will tackle inequities and disparities in
global health in a new way.
SMART will develop advanced manufacturing processes and
technologies that will enable cost-effective design and production
of high-quality, customizable products.
RENEW focuses on complex energy and environmental issues, as
well as their social and economic ramifications.
