EOC to present Income Inequality Forum

UB’s Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) will host an Income Inequality Forum on Feb. 23, an event being held in recognition of Black History Month.

The free forum takes place from 7-9 p.m. at EOC, 555 Ellicott St. on the Downtown Campus. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Income Inequality Forum aims to raise awareness within the African American community and provide strategies to effectively address these challenges. Attendees will hear presentations from a motivator, financial educator, senior level nonprofit professional and a serial entrepreneur – all offering career insight and information to those seeking to elevate and change their circumstances.

“Knowledge is power and therefore we have an obligation to empower ourselves and the generations to come,” says Debra Thompson, EOC associate executive director. “Remember, it’s not how we start but how we finish.”

The forum’s message of self-empowerment is aimed at inspiring those in the community who are aspiring entrepreneurs, underemployed, unemployed, adult-learners or reentry returning citizens. Gaining knowledge and converting it into actionable steps is the foundation for achieving obtainable goals and success. The forum seeks to be a catalyst in the community for those who are seeking to elevate their lives and change their circumstances.

Those interested in attending the Income Inequality Forum can register at the EOC’s website by clicking “See All” under the “Upcoming Events” header. For more information, contact Oliver Glover at (716) 645-1910 or via email.

UB’s EOC provides programs to prepare low-income and nontraditional students for higher education and jobs. Founded in 1973, the EOC is part of a statewide network of 10 Educational Opportunity Centers and two Outreach and Counseling Centers that operate under SUNY’s University Center for Academic and Workforce Development.
