UB reviewing masking requirements with SUNY

Published May 17, 2021

UB is aware of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s announcement that New York State will adopt the CDC’s latest recommendations, including not requiring masks for fully vaccinated people, in most business and public settings.

The university is currently reviewing these recommendations in coordination with the State University of New York. Until it receives further information, the university will continue to follow its current face covering guidelines, outlined in UB’s health and safety guidelines, which state that masks are required indoors at UB at all times. Fully vaccinated people can remove their masks in outdoor settings on UB’s campuses.

In addition, a growing number of UB faculty and staff, as well as students, continue to get vaccinated. As of May 14, 1,726 faculty and staff — or about 82% of employees coming to campus on a regular basis — have reported via Daily Health Check that they've been fully vaccinated. In addition, 4,462 students have self-reported via Daily Health Check that are fully vaccinated.

Additional updates will be posted to UB's COVID-19 planning and response website.
