UB Learns Roadmap for 2020: Cloud-Based and the Ultra Experience

Throughout 2020, UB Learns administrators will be implementing a series of updates that will improve the quality of the service and prepare it for Blackboard's more modern, intuitive interface called Ultra Experience.

A year of exciting changes for UB Learns

The UB Learns support team is committed to providing the most up-to-date educational resources that help instructors deliver innovative and engaging online content to their students. With that goal in mind, we are working on updates that will be rolled out in three phases during 2020.

Migrate UB Learns to Blackboard Learn SaaS - Completed

Why migrate?

The move to a cloud-delivery environment (also known as Software as a Service or SaaS) allows UB Learns to take advantage of the Ultra Experience, Blackboard's redesigned user interface. Some of the advantages of Ultra include:

  • Simpler navigation.
  • Increased efficiency in day-to-day tasks for both instructors and students.
  • Responsive interface that adjusts to fit on any computer, tablet or smartphone.

Will I see any differences in UB Learns or the way that I log in?

No, UB Learns works exactly the way it did during the fall 2019 semester. You still log in at ublearns.buffalo.edu with your UBITName and password and access courses in the same manner.

Adopt Ultra Base Navigation - Completed

What is Ultra Base Navigation?

Ultra Base Navigation allows instructors easy access to core features as well as a global view across all courses. For example, instructors can see all their grading tasks organized by course without the need to navigate to each course to see what's ready for grading.

Ultra Course Early Adopters - Late 2020

What is an Ultra Course?

Ultra Courses feature a new user interface that shows all of the content for a course in the main column of the page. When adding or editing content, a new layer slides out on top of the course page, making it easy to change content and get back to your previous spot in the course. The process will make course development in UB Learns simpler and more efficient.

The UB Learns support team is working directly with a group of early adopters to design and deliver online content using the new Ultra Course View for their fall 2020 courses.

We will be offering information sessions on Ultra Course View in November and January and begin working with an expanded group of instructors to develop courses using Ultra Course View for spring 2021.

The current UB Learns course interface, also called the Original Course, will continue to be the default course layout.
