Keeping Your Email Account when Employment Ends

Find out whether you can keep your UBmail Powered by Exchange account after you leave UB.

Former Employees (Not Retiring)

It is against university policy for former employees to keep their UBmail account after their employment ends, except for UB retirees.

UB Retirees

You are eligible to keep your UBmail account if you retire from the University at Buffalo.

Prior to retiring, contact your department’s IT support staff to inform them of your pending retirement.

  • You must log into your UBmail account at least once every 90 days to keep it active. Forwarding your UBmail to another email address will not count as logging in to your UBmail.
  • If you fail to log in within 90 days and want to reactivate your UBmail account, contact the UBIT Help Center. They will re-create your UBmail account with the same email address, but none of your previously saved email messages can be recovered.
