Configuring Your Mobile Device for UBmail (Central Email)

Volunteers: Learn how to set up the email app on your tablet or smartphone to work with UBmail (Central Email).



Use your phone's built-in email client to read email after you configure it for UBmail (Central Email).

You can configure any iOS device, including iPhones and iPads, to read your UBMail Powered by Google email.

1. Tap Settings.

2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

3. Tap Add Account.

4. Tap Other.

5. Tap Add Mail Account.

6. Enter the following:

  • Your first and last name in the Name field
  • Your email address in the Address field
  • Your UBIT password in the Password field
  • A name for the connection, such as UBMail, in the Description field

7. Scroll down. If you can't scroll, click Next. In Incoming Mail Server:

  • Enter for the Incoming Mail Server Host Name.
  • Enter your UBITName in the Username field.
  • Enter your UBIT password in the Password field.

8. Scroll down. In Outgoing Mail Server:

  • Enter for Outgoing Mail Server SMTP.
  • Enter your UBITName in the Username field.
  • Enter your UBIT password in the Password field.

9. Tap Save. If you don't have Save, click Next. Verifying will appear, then click Save.

10. Tap Settings. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Tap UBmail or whatever name you gave your UBmail connection.

13. Tap as the primary server.

14. Verify that the Server Port is set to 465. If not, change it.

15. Click Done.


Note: Different versions may display different options than those described here. These instructions were created wtih a Samsung Galaxy Tab4 running Android 4.4.2.

  1. Select Apps > Settings.
  2. Select the General tab and tap Accounts.
  3. Under My Accounts, tap Add account.
  4. Tap Email. (Lollipop and newer operating systems do not contain the Email app. Either download one from Google Play or else use the Gmail app)
  5. Enter your complete UB email address (your UBITName followed by in the Email Address field.
  6. Enter your UBITName password in the Password field.
  7. Click the > at the top of the screen. Your computer should prompt you for the frequency you want to sync your email on your device to your email account. Choose the desired frequency and tap >
    • If your device does not automatically configure:
      1. enter for the IMAP server
      2. enter 993 for the port
      3. Select SSL for the security
      4. Tap > at the top of the screen
      5. enter for the SMTP server
      6. enter 465 for the port
      7. Check Require sign-in
      8. Select SSL for the security
      9. Tap > at the top of the screen
  8. Enter the name you want associated with this email account on this device.
  9. Tap Done.

Kindle Fire

  1. Make sure your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap Apps, Email, Start, Other.
  3. In the Email address field, enter your UBITName followed by (e.g.,
  4. In the Password field, enter your UBIT password.
  5. Tap Next.
  6. Tap IMAP.
  7. Enter the following:
    • In the Email field, enter your UBITName (Do NOT enter your email address, just your UBITName.)
    • In the Password field, enter your UBIT password.
    • In the IMAP server field, enter
    • For Secuirity type, select SSL (always)
    • For Authentication type, select PLAIN
    • For Port, select 993
    • Leave IMAP path prefix blank - it will say (Automatic using NAMESPACE if available)
  8. Tap Next
  9. Enter the following:
    • For SMTP server, enter
    • For Security type, select SSL (always)
    • For Port, enter 465
    • Leave Require sign-in checked.
  10. Tap Next.
  11. Select how frequently you want messages checked: Every 15 minutes, every 30 minutes, hourly or manually.
  12. Tap Next.
  13. Enter your first and last name in the Type your name (displays on outgoing messages) field.
  14. Enter UB Email in the Give this account a name (optional) field.
  15. Tap View your INBOX.

General Settings

If you have a device not listed above, use these settings.

For Incoming Server, choose:

  • IMAP if you plan to read email on multiple devices, such as your laptop, phone and computers in Cybraries
  • POP if you plan to only read your email using this mobile device
