Learn how to set up Thunderbird email client for your Linux operating system.
Before using Thunderbird:
If you do not already have it, download Thunderbird.
To configure Thunderbird:
- Click Create a new account
- Click Skip this and use my existing email.
- Enter Your name.
- Enter your buffalo.edu email address in Email address.
- Enter your UBITName password in Password.
- Uncheck Remember password (recommended)
- Click Continue.
- Wait for Thunderbird to automatically detect settings.
- Select IMAP (remote folders) or POP3 (keep mail on your computer) depending on your preference.
- Click Manual config.
- IMAP (Incoming):
- Make sure Server hostname is imap.buffalo.edu
- Change Port to 993
- Make sure SSL is SSL/TLS
- Change Authentication to Normal password
- POP (Incoming):
- Make sure Server hostname is pop.buffalo.edu
- Change Port to 995
- Make sure SSL is SSL/TLS
- Change Authentication to Normal password
- SMTP (Outgoing):
- Make sure Server hostname is smtp.buffalo.edu.
- Change Port to 465
- Change SSL to SSL/TLS.
- Change Authentication to Normal password.
- Make sure Username is your UBITName.
- Click Done.
Tested with Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS and Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8.
