Webex is retiring at UB as of November 19, 2021. We recommend using Zoom  or MS Teams for your video and audio conferencing needs.

Cisco Webex is a Web conferencing tool available to UB faculty, staff and students that enables fully interactive video and audio connections with people locally and around the world.

Use Webex to:

  • Share video and screen with someone while on a call 
  • Share a file with participants in a meeting
  • Host a meeting with people in different locations
  • Host a meeting/event/training from a UB technology classroom
  • Host an online seminar or workshop
  • Record an online meeting to share with colleagues later
  • Call into a meeting from your phone

Which Webex tool should I use?

Webex provides several meeting types, all of them accommodate up to 1000 participants:

  • Webex Meetings (a.k.a. Webex Meetings Pro Meeting) – a regular, scheduled meeting
  • Personal Room Meeting – best for impromptu meetings, and back-to-back meetings in which the meeting host wants to remain in one meeting room for several meetings and have attendees join at different times.
  • Personal Conference Meeting (a.k.a. Webex Personal Conference) – an audio-only meeting that's similar to a conference call.

  • Webex Events (new) – an update to the classic Webex Events platform, provides a polished, professional webinar for your attendees and panelists and gives the host complete control over attendee video, audio, and chat.
  • Webex Event (classic) – for anyone familiar with the classic version of Webex Events, you may continue to schedule webinars using this interface and features. Gives the host complete control over attendee video, audio, and chat.

Can UB's Webex be used with people outside of UB?

Yes. Anyone in the world can join a Webex. Only UB faculty, staff and students can initiate a meeting.

How many people can Webex accommodate?

  • Webex Meeting: up to 1,000 participants per meeting
  • Webex Training: up to 1,000 participants per meeting
  • Webex Event: up to 1,000 participants per meeting
