Faculty town halls are regular opportunities for UB faculty to learn from and share their feedback with UB’s IT professionals.

During April 2018, UBIT hosted two town hall events at UB, open to all faculty and researchers.

UB’s Information Security Office provided an overview on NIST federal requirements for contracts, data sharing agreements and data management. The ISO also discussed UB’s plan for compliance with the new regulatory framework.

In addition, IT staff offered an introduction to several new, easy to use UB collaboration tools, including:

  • Box Drive: Software for Windows and MacOS that makes UBbox a removable drive on your device—open, edit, copy and save UBbox files right from your desktop.
  • WebEx and Spark: Host online events and conferences with up to 1,000 participants; includes Spark for online project collaboration that students can join.
  • Recording with Panopto: Record and broadcast video, audio and screen content (live or for later) from any device, then edit and share from your unlimited cloud storage account.

We also discussed faculty considerations as we prepare for our next network upgrade design

These town hall-style events are part of a broader effort to give faculty a voice in defining the role and vision of technology in research and instruction at the University at Buffalo. UBIT hopes that faculty can attend future events and lend their voice to the effort to bring better faculty-friendly technology services to UB.
