What we do for the UB community

Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) supports the core technological infrastructure that underpins university IT services, including virtual and physical servers, data storage, data centers, logins, UBIT accounts, and collaboration platforms.

Who we support

  • Students, faculty, staff, and other individuals affiliated with the university
  • UBIT and distributed IT units that build services on top of core infrastructure

What we provide

  • Collaboration services including UBmail, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 services
  • Data storage services including UB Box, UBFS and OneDrive 
  • Web hosting services
  • Virtual computing services including My Virtual Computing Lab and My Virtual Public Site desktops 
  • Database service
  • Enterprise data backup and recovery services 
  • UBITName authentication
  • Directory services 
  • Endpoint management services including SCCM and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
  • Physical and virtual servers
  • Domain Name Service
  • IT service High Availability infrastructure 
  • University IT data centers

When you might work with us

  • You are planning or operating a service that needs enterprise server or container hosting, storage, authentication, collaboration tool integration, databases, backup or core infrastructure services.
  • You need guidance on how best to leverage UB’s central infrastructure for a new or existing IT service.

Larry Schnitzer joined the university in 1990 before moving to UBIT in 2000 as a Unix Systems Administrator. In 2006, he took on the role of Manager of Systems Software and in 2016 became EIS' Associate Director. Prior to joining UBIT, he worked in the CEDAR research group at UB as a digital hardware and software engineer. Larry earned a Masters of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University at Buffalo. Larry was named Director of EIS in 2018.
