Special Projects Technician

Join our team of student assistant (SA) technicians who help support the UB printing and computing operation. We are looking for a Special Projects Technician to help us manage our team of print techs and lead teams on special projects that are needed to support our services.

This is a multi-faceted job that works closely with the management team, its student employees, and the UB community. Our team values a variety of skill sets, from administrative to technical.

The ideal candidate will have good availability outside of normal academic responsibilities. Typical work weeks range from 15-20 hours a week,** scheduled around your academic commitments.  Pay rate is $17.00 per hour.

Minimum qualifications

  • Must be a registered student within SUNY
  • Must NOT hold a teaching assistant (TA) or graduate assistant (GA) position
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license (proof required)
  • Must have at least two semesters remaining before graduation (not counting the current semester)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to start immediately

Responsibilities

The Special Projects Technician will monitor and facilitate the operation of print kiosks and the management of Level Up. Minimum duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring staffing per published schedules and filling in as necessary
  • Performing second-level troubleshooting on printer and desktop hardware (training provided)
  • Escalating issues to our service provider, or completing service support as needed
  • Handling customer service issues
  • Assisting managers in training new print technicians
  • Maintaining internal procedural documentation and inventory data
  • Ensuring that print kiosks are clean, in good working order, and properly supplied
  • Ensuring that Level Up gaming workstations and consoles are in good working order and that the site is clean and well maintained
  • Leading project teams for cleaning computing sites, moving equipment, performing maintenance, and other specialty service-related tasks as needed
  • Duties include travel between North and South Campuses using state-owned vehicles. A valid NYS driver’s license is required
  • Many projects will be scheduled during the summer session and candidates are expected to work summers (vacation time is permitted)

Notes

  • **Students who are US Citizens or Permanent Residents, and can produce a letter of good academic standing, may work a maximum 29 hours per week
  • This is NOT a graduate assistantship
