Active Learning Strategies for Large Classes

In this workshop, part of a larger series with the goal of educating and supporting faculty who would like to increase active learning in their classes, we will focus on activities to incorporate into large classes. We will discuss common techniques that address the challenges of increasing active learning in a large class. Participants will be introduced to technology tools that can aid in active learning.

Learning objectives

  • Discuss the challenges to incorporation of active learning activities into a large class and brainstorm techniques that address those challenges
  • Learn about specific activities that can be incorporated into their instruction
  • Be introduced to technological tools that aid in engagement through active learning
  • Describe several known high-impact, evidence-based effective instructional practices and materials and recognize their alignment with particular types of learning goals
