The Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) partners with university deans and faculty to positively impact student learning outcomes through the art of teaching and the science of learning.
The Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) is a teaching and learning center at the University at Buffalo, which is a flagship campus of the State University of New York (SUNY). As a member institution of the AAU (Association of American Universities) our center strives to uphold the collective ideals and meet the objectives of the top research universities in North America.
Through direct support between faculty in need and our CEI learning designers, CEI is on-hand to meet the immediate needs of faculty.
To protect the health and safety of our campus community, CEI has moved our faculty development academies fully online. These academies provide deliberate pedagogical and technical support in teaching and learning.
This teaching series offers faculty unique opportunities to interact with and learn from their expert peers who are successfully navigating and innovating to meet the challenges of educational delivery in a global pandemic.
The past year has been a busy and exciting time for our center as we had the distinct pleasure of partnering and serving faculty from every academic unit across UB.
As this year progressed, like all other areas of the university, CEI was greatly impacted by the global emergency of this spring. As such, this impact report highlights the central work of our team throughout the 2019–20 academic year, culminating in our center’s emergency efforts to help transition UB’s faculty to online instruction.
Providing the campus with expertise in pedagogy, design and interactive learning, regardless of delivery method, as our university leadership works to navigate the ever-changing landscape and uncertain trajectory of higher education.
Launching the university’s first fully-scaled faculty development model, the CEI Academies, researched and written on-site, which allows for future training and strategic partnerships with the academic and administrative units.
Ensuring UB students and faculty have access to course materials before and after class via our learning systems, which include UB Learns, UB Clicks, Respondus Monitor, Ally and Safe Assign.
Leading the charge through efforts like: overseeing research projects, delivering papers and presentations, centralizing institutional membership opportunities, and emerging as the hub for learning systems and design at UB.
For our efforts in faculty development, CEI was awarded a 2020 Blackboard Catalyst Award. This award signifies that our center is among a premiere group of teaching and learning centers that are making a difference at their institutions and in the higher education community more broadly.
