Throughout November, the IDC is proud to present Native American Heritage Month. Programming and activities will focus on celebrating, preserving and educating students on the cultures of Native American Indians in America.
Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Join us for an opportunity to highlight individuals and communities and their contributions to history, culture, and society.

Speaker: Andrew Jolivette
Andrew Jolivétte will be speaking on his monographs, Louisiana Creole Peoplehood and Gumbo Circuitry.
Bio: Andrew Jolivétte, former professor and department chair of Ethnic Studies at UC San Diego (2018-2024) and American Indian Studies at San Francisco State University (2003-2019) is an accomplished internationally recognized researcher, educator, writer/poet, speaker, socio-cultural critic, and an aspiring chef. Jolivette currently serves as the Board President of the American Indian Community Center in San Francisco, California where he was also Interim Executive Director from 2016-October 2018. He is the author or editor of eight books in print or forthcoming.

Thursday, November 6: Seeds Film Screening

Please join the Humanities Institute's Haudenosaunee-Native American Research Group and the Department of Indigenous Studies for a film screening of the 2024 film, Seeds.
Seeds is a comedy thriller film, written and directed by Kaniehtiio Horn (Kahnawake Mohawk). Kaniehtiio Horn will participate virtually, and there will be a faculty panel and refreshments following the screening.

Wednesday, November 12: Native American Heritage Month Mixer

Join the IDC as we kick off Native American Heritage Month with a mixer celebrating the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native peoples. Enjoy refreshments, music, and interactive activities while connecting with students, faculty, and staff. This event is a space for learning, sharing, and building community, open to all who wish to celebrate and uplift Native voices and stories. Come mingle, explore, and celebrate Native heritage.
