Cautionary Request: Off-Campus Students

Published September 25, 2020

Important information for off-campus students from the Dean of Students.

The start of this semester has been one of the most challenging periods for our UB community in recent memory. With the implementation of new rules and safety precautions in place to keep our UB community safe, now more than ever it is imperative that we stay vigilant and continue our efforts.

This commitment is exactly the reason why I am writing you today. I wanted to remind you again of our COVID-19 best practices at UB and address a few concerns that have arisen in the past few weeks.

We are diligently trying to contain the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses and have added extra precautions to minimize the spread, and hope you are doing the same. This includes reducing density in our on-campus residence halls and classrooms and sticking to strict guidelines related to sanitation, social distancing and face coverings. While these practices may be in full force within the boundaries of our campuses, the same may not be true in living communities that surround UB.

Over the past week, the university has noticed an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in a number of our neighboring off-campus housing complexes. I am writing you today to make you aware of this trend and to ask your assistance in changing any behaviors that threaten the health and safety of our campus and the community, and ultimately jeopardize a successful fall semester. We advise strongly against attending or hosting parties where you cannot wear a mask and/or maintain social distancing. In addition, it is imperative that you are adhering to the health and safety guidelines set forth by the Erie County Department of Health and the University at Buffalo.

As we continue to work together during this unprecedented semester, I want to thank you for your hard work both in and out of the classroom. We are here to support you and know that a renewed commitment to the health and safety of our campus community will guide and direct your future activities this semester.

We have created a list of FAQs and a website with the most up-to-date information related to coronavirus for your convenience. I hope you take these precautions seriously, so we can finish the semester strong.

Together, we are UB.

Go Bulls!
