Take a Minute, Save A Life

UB is planning and participating in activities from Sept. 7-14, 2019 to mark National Suicide Prevention Week. Make a difference by attending any or all of the events. 

  • Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) at Canalside, downtown Buffalo. Join the UB Walkin’ Team, create your own team, or make a donation at
  • Wellness Activity Day on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Student Union Lobby. It will include Mental Health Resources, Stress Relief, Intuitive Nutrition, Yoga Meditation and Mindfulness, Games and Prizes.
  • Yoga to Manage Moods Workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 4:30 – 6:00 PM, Diefendorf 7, Basement Level (South Campus). Hatha Yoga provides a holistic approach to mood and symptom management. This workshop allows participants to feel more connected and balanced within the body and mind through gentle movement, breathing and relaxation. No yoga experience necessary.
  • Suicide Prevention Training: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 10am to noon at Student Union 210. This training assists participants in learning to recognize the warning signs of suicide and ways to effectively help someone in need. Register online for this date or future offerings.

Suicide claims more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students. The best way to prevent suicide is through early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of depression and other mental health conditions.
