Gaining Global Fluency

Here to Career program participant, Maddie, shares her experience with a fellow student.

After polishing her international fluency skills as a Student Engagement Ambassador, Madeline Quek earned a job at Disney World.

Intercultural Influence

As an international student, Madeline Quek wanted to develop her leadership skills and sharpen her intercultural fluency outside the classroom. She was able to do this, and much more through her work as a Student Engagement Ambassador in Student Life.

I was able to meet so many people from a variety of different backgrounds at UB. I will be able to take those experiences and apply them to my job at Disney World.

Resume Building

Madeline engaged with hundreds of her fellow students, gained practical hands-on experience and networked across campus and throughout Buffalo, ultimately building out her resume for future employment. During her time as a Student Engagement Ambassador, she completed four Here to Career micro-credential badges, the TORCH leadership and UBXL Experiential Learning certificates, garnering many new connections on LinkedIn.

Disney World and Beyond

By leveraging her micro-credential badges and experiences from the Here to Career program, Madeline earned an internship at Disney World, where she will represent UB in a highly competitive, global environment. “Here to Career and the micro-credential program really validated what I learned at my on-campus job. I’m now able to take those skills, and apply them to my job at Disney and beyond,” says Madeline.
