Sponsored by Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR), the UB Center for Advanced Technology in Big Data and Health Sciences (UB CAT) is one of 15 designated Centers in the state dedicated to leveraging University resources to drive company growth.

UB’s CAT specifically focuses on the intersection of big data and health sciences, particularly as it relates to drug development, medical devices, diagnostics tools and healthcare IT.

The UB Center for Advanced Technology in Big Data and Health Sciences (UB CAT) project funds are applied to collaborative research projects between UB faculty and New York State health sciences companies that utilize big data to drive innovation.  All companies awarded CAT funding are required to provide matching funds toward their project, which is capped at a ratio $1:$1.50 for small companies (<100 employees) and $1:$3 for large companies (>100 employees).

UB CAT works with companies across the health sciences spectrum, including:

  • Biotechnology
  • Biomedical informatics
  • Diagnostics
