Letitia Thomas is an expert on the sociology of education. Among other topics, she can speak to the media about diversity in academia and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and how institutions can create a supportive environment for underrepresented students and scholars.

At UB, Thomas oversees programs that seek to increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing STEM careers, and to build a supportive network for STEM scholars. She also serves as a resource for grant writing and outreach programs that aim to provide greater paths to success for these students.

She works closely with women and students of color in STEM disciplines in UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and UB’s College of Arts and Sciences.
