Jordana Maisel is an expert in universal design and issues related to the impact of the built environment on individuals’ health, particularly for older adults and people who have disabilities.

Maisel has authored numerous publications on universal design, a design process that aims to empower a diverse population by creating products, spaces and infrastructure that can be easily used by people with a wide range of abilities and characteristics. Universal design addresses barriers faced by people with disabilities, older adults, children and other populations who the design process typically overlooks, benefiting all users.

Maisel has led research in areas such as public transportation, street infrastructure, building design and accessible housing policy. A frequent theme of Maisel’s work is evaluating the impact of inclusive design implementation.
