There may only be a few pools in WNY this month, however the Great Lakes and Finger Lake regions are just a short drive away. Collins Marine in Tonawanda, NY recently reported that WNY residents have a renewed interest in exploring the region this summer. (https://www.collinsmarine.com/) Whether you are enjoying the warm temperatures on a boat, pontoon, jet ski, or any other water craft, please remember that life jackets are a necessity for that next get-a-way.

Lifejackets are not just for kids and weak swimmers. The U.S. Coast Guard reported in 2018 that 84% of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing a lifejacket. (https://www.uscgboating.org/statistics/accident_statistics.php) Keep in mind that different life jackets are used for different forms of recreation (boating vs. fishing vs. water skiing and wake boarding). Visit the American Red Cross and take time to learn about the five different types of life jackets.

Another great resource for learning more about specific types of life jackets can be found in this article from Cabin Life, Know About Lifejackets.
